I paint because I am inspired by images created by natural phenomena and the physical world, the details of which are indicators of the passage of time, space, movement and change. Our histories, transgressions and aspirations are intertwined with and documented in the tissues of natural objects. I aim to capture and recreate something of the quality of marks found in nature and influence how they are perceived by the senses. My paintings are often exercises in seeing to create environments that seem large or deep and have the viewer think of the space created within the work and their relationship to it.

I work from life, imagination, photographs, maps, scientific data and electronic renderings. Often my mark-making is repetitive and layered, both quick and deliberate creating dense and shallow spaces on various scales. My way of working embodies the sense of physicality and energy that is the basis of my paintings.
